25 A generous person will be enriched,
and the one who gives a drink of water
will receive water. (Proverbs 11:25 CSB)
When we give generously, we receive generously.
The world is a greedy place, we do not need to add to that. Our offerings of help, support, money, time and other resources we have is part of our faith life. It is, truly, part of being human. The more we can be sympathetic to the world around us, the more God’s love shines through us, the more we can empathize with others.
This empathy is what brings us together. It is through this that we see ourselves as equals.
But people do not want to see themselves as equals. Oh, we spend a lot of time and effort trying to make ourselves and others believe we do, but this is not manifest in our lives.
No, we want to be better. Do better. Have more. Be more. This is what the world teaches us. It is what drives us far too often.
Think for a moment with me about a cool drink of fresh water. This is something we too often take for granted. We see it as a God-given right. But it is not. Many around the world do not have the luxury of fresh, clean water. It should break our hearts. But it does not. We will read this and not give it another thought today in our busy, busy lives.
Surely we should spend more time considering water given and water received.
