23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my concerns.
24 See if there is any offensive[g] way in me;
lead me in the everlasting way. (Psalm 139:23-24 CSB)
We like to ask God to correct others, but how often do we ask that He search us for any offensive ways within us?
Yes, we are quick to ask God to intervene on our behalf, but what if it is we who are the problem. In a podcast I was listening to yesterday the question was posed, ”how does the mood of the room change when we walk in?” It is a good question. Do we bring the room up or bring it down?
As Christians we should strive to always be a positive influence. We should want to be the person others looks to favorably and be known for our good works. Not that we may be prideful in these things, but so that glory comes to God through our actions. We should strive to shine upon others God’s warming light.
When we do we can find that even the most callous of those around us soften when we are kind and receptive. This attitude comes from a solid knowledge that God is in control of everything and that we are simply His messengers in this world. The Good news should be evident in or word and deed.
For this to happen we must be open and accepting of God’s searching of our ways first. Only then can we expect that He will search others who are come in contact with. Look first to the plank in thine own eye before being concerned about the speck in the eye of another.
