7 Where can I go to escape your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to heaven, you are there;
if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. (Psalm 139 7-8 CSB)
No matter where you go physically.
No matter how simple or intellectual you may be.
No matter how poor or wealthy you may be.
No matter what you have done.
God is there. The Spirit resides. Christ holds you.
There have been times in my life where I just wanted to get on my motorcycle and ride away from life. To go and go and go and not come back. If we are old enough and honest enough, I think we have all had these feelings at times in our lives.
But no matter if I am here or there, facing good times or bad, feeling healthy or poorly, God is by my side, and God is on my side.
Escapism is almost a past tie today. We look for things to take us out of our work a day world. Things to help us forget the reality of life and allows us to live beyond ourselves. But there is one truth that we always come back to, and that is that we cannot escape God. Nor should we want to.
In fact we should strive to practice the presence of God continually. In doing so we may just find that we have no need to escape anything about our lives.
