4 Before a word is on my tongue,
you know all about it, Lord.
5 You have encircled me;
you have placed your hand on me.
6 This wondrous knowledge is beyond me.
It is lofty; I am unable to reach it.
How incredible is it that our God wants to be intimately involved in our lives. He is in what we say and all that happens around us. This is truly beyond our understanding.
My wife and I will be celebrating our 40th anniversary in a few months. Suffice it to say that we know one another quite well. Yet, even we do not know everything about one another. In fact we may have forgotten more than we know.
But our God does not forget anything, apart from our sin. He is so continually around us that he knows our very DNA. He knows our insides, our thoughts, our fears, our joys, our everything. He truly has encircled us in every possible way.
We too serve a risen Savior who understands our every human aspect. A Spirit advocate that knows every aspect of our inner nature. And a Father who loves us dearly, as a father loves a son or daughter.
So nothing you can think, say or do escapes God’s encircling nature. But this can be a fearful state for some and may lead to the belief that we have no private space, no free will. But we do, God gives us that too.
You see, often when God feels distant he is giving us space to grow and mature in our faith through what we do not see. He is giving us freedom to make our own decisions, no matter how bad, while giving us the Spirit to be our guide when we call upon him.
There is no length God would not go to for us, he even knows every hair upon your head.
