30 But when he saw the strength of the wind,[a] he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me!” (Matthew 14:30 CSB)
As believers we are not exempt from the strong winds of life. But too we are not meant to stand alone against the wind. The Spirit stands with us and Christ is there to either calm the storm or shelter us from from its strength.
“But when he saw” is the operative part of this verse. It shows that we humans have a habit of looking around us and not to Christ first. We see the strong winds and we become immediately afraid….and we begin to sink.
If our faith walk is strong the first thing we do is cry out, ”Lord, save me!”
Too often though, we try to manipulate the situation. We start not by looking to our Lord, but to ourselves. We start to problem solve. There is nothing wrong with working to rectify a bad situation. However, we must begin first with God, then allow Him to guide the process. We, in short, need to listen first.
Then two things happen. God works the situation to our good and we grow in our faith. Even if times remain difficult we must look to grow strong ourselves, in Christ, against the storm.
