15 For to God we are the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. (2 Corinthians 2:15 CSB)
Have you considered just how fragrant you are to others?
No, I am not talking about whether you did or did not put deodorant or your best perfume on today. But in a greater spiritual sense, how fragrant are you?
It may seem odd that the idea of odor would be used when describing our spiritual state among others. Additionally, our scripture notes this regarding when we are around both the saved and the unsaved.
Too often we tend to only put our best self forward around those we attend church with. We seek to be holy around others we deem holy. How God might right our view in this area if we only knew.
We should not save our acts of faith, kindness and piety for those who we gather with in Christ name. No, the fragrance we spread should be for everyone we meet. And it should linger long after we are gone.
You see, this is why our scripture speaks in this way. People, saved or unsaved, should not only sense us when we are with them but long afterward. Our lives should be lived in a way, and our interactions be uplifting, that others remember long after we are gone. This is the fragrance our scripture speaks of and it should linger sweetly upon others lives.
