3 But when you give to the poor, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, (Matthew 6:3 CSB)
We often may have heard “the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.” Part of this scripture has been hijacked as a derogative to explain the disconnects in many organizations.
However, as we can see it was never meant that way. It was meant to keep us humble in how we handle our giving. This was to counter the prevailing way the Pharisees would make a show of how they helped the poor so they could be considered more pious.
A humble nature in how we deal with utilization of our resources must be focused upon giving glory not to our selves, but to God. Otherwise, we have realized the only reward we can expect from such an activity.
This too, in my mind, is why we should always strive to focus fully upon God in the utilization of our time, talents and treasure. When we use all three based upon a desire to give God all the glory, God repay’s us in ways unimaginable.
