Sarah Laughed

12 So she laughed to herself: “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I have delight?” (Genesis 18:12 CSB)

In our passage an angel of the Lord had just told Abraham that Sarah, his wife, would give birth in a year. But Sarah and Abraham were old and Sarah did not think that she could bear a child at her age.

How often do we, like Sarah, scoff at God? We may not do it intentionally or with malice, but we laugh all the same. We short change God because of our small mindedness. We do not see God for how big He truly is.

We stop just before God answers years old prayers. We give up. But our prayers do not. They live on.

You see, while we laugh, God too laughs. But His laughter is at our tiny plans while He is orchestrating great things in the background.

Too often we laugh because our vision is so short. We see today and can only speculate about tomorrow, much less next week, next month or next year. But all the while God is planning for eternity.

Sarah did have a child, and God’s plans for you are still happening.
