13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt should lose its taste, how can it be made salty?[a] It’s no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. (Matthew 5:13 CSB)
In the current societal climate believers may feel that they cannot express their faith in public. We have been shouted down at every opportunity, called intolerant, backward, narrow-minded, and just plain wrong.
Well, if my faith is wrong I don’t want to be right.
I do not making excuses for my faith but neither have I beaten others over the head with it. I have chosen to stand firm in my belief and my convictions. I have remained salty and would not be easily trampled under people’s feet. I strive to remain the wall the tide breaks against, but not I, but Christ who lives in me.
These same people who do this I have watched, quietly and with love, and do you know what I have witnessed in those who would shout me down?
A hole. In fact, a God sized hole.
They are not happy, there is little joy in their lives. Many live only to be a grate the cheese of life is continually rubbed against. What a sad state!
In my Christ given love for others (which does not come naturally for me), I find joy daily in shining His love upon everyone I meet. Or at least I try.
Maybe keeping my saltiness and showing love is simply rubbing the sting into their wounded souls. If so, may it ever be so, until they come to the loving salvation of Christ.
