Sun and Shield

11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield.
The Lord grants favor and honor;
he does not withhold the good
from those who live with integrity. (Psalm 84:11 CSB)

I love this scripture. What a beautiful picture it paints of just who and how God is.

I especially like the sentence, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield.”

As the days are getting colder approaching winter, there is no better feeling than the sun on our face. The warmth and radiance on a cool day not only bring a heat to our body but lift the spirit. Thus, taking our scripture we can see and feel God shining down upon us from heaven. His radiance lighting our life and path.

His shield is too an apt metaphor for how we must approach each day. No warrior walks upon the battlefield without a shield. Today, our modern warriors have replaced the shield for body armor., mobility in modern warfare takes precedence. However, there are times here too where shields come into play. For the Christian warrior we must pick up the shield of our faith daily, which is most often the Word of God.

Lastly, our scripture gives a recipe for favor and honor with God. We must live with integrity so that God does not withhold any good from us. His sun (Son) can shine fully upon us.
