Exhort Others

14 And we exhort you, brothers and sisters: warn those who are idle,[a] comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone. (1 Thessalonians 5:14 CSB)

We have a great opportunity to provide encouragement to those we come into contact with each day. Doubtfully, a day goes by where God does not bring someone into our sphere of influence and provide a chance to lift them up.

Today’s scripture has four ways we can exhort others in our daily life;

Warn those who are idle – this may be a bit uncomfortable, but we are to gently warn those who are not living out their faith that there is good reason to do so. It is our faith based commission. Each and every one of us has a role to fulfill in God.

Comfort the discouraged – the world is full of discouraged people. Yes, we all put on happy faces but behind that thin facade we are a broken people. Helping others to remember to live in the moment and not allow tomorrow’s concerns to drag down today, as tomorrow has enough worries of its own.

Help the weak – even when we are not feeling our best we encounter those weaker than ourselves. Those in need of a helping hand, we need but reach out.

Be patient with everyone – the biggest challenge we face daily. The pace of the world is such that anyone that drags behind just a little become fodder for the impatient. Just spend a little time on any road and you will realize this, maybe even experience it.

There is much we can do daily to exhort others.
