Command Me

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter answered him, “command me to come to you on the water.” (Matthew 14:28 CSB)

We need to look at life with more of a “command me to come to you” attitude.

This may seem an odd statement, but I would hazard, we spend most of our time expecting God to come to us. We want Him to meet us where we are and help us in our current state.

However, it may well be that like Peter, the wind tossed boat your in is not the best place. The best place for you may be standing on the waves with Jesus.

We do not typically move easily from one unsure situation toward an even more unsure situation. Living by faith is to walk into the unseen and the unknowable. But Christ says, “I will be with you always, even to the end of the age.” We need not fear the storm around us and we need, more and more, to meet Jesus where He is rather than where we are.

When we move from “guide me” to “command me” life decisions get easier not harder. We may deviate from gentle guidance, but it is far harder to deviate from a direct command.

I for one wish for more commands.
