3 For this is what love for God is: to keep his commands. And his commands are not a burden, 4 because everyone who has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith. (1 John 5:3-4 CSB)
I never was one who thought I would set out to conquer the world. I figured I would carve out my niche and simply live in it. Yet, as our scripture says, through our faith we can conquer the world.
This scripture may seem trite to some. A metaphor to help us to feel something bigger than our faith really is. But the reality is that our faith is bigger than this world. In fact it not only conquers this world but eternity as well.
Think about it. Christ died for our sins and then overcame death. In doing so He overcame the world and by proxy so did we. He gives us the strength to overcome all of the schemes of the enemy and to live above the world. Not as holier-than-thou Christians but as humble servants to a God who is bigger than this world. One who made the universe.
This gives me hope and strength to go out each day and take on new faith challenges. To live bigger than myself (which is no small task) even when I am feeling weak and small. Even when the enemy seeks nothing more than my defeat and the crushing of my desires.
I have faith, which has conquered the world.
