49 And just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we will also bear the image of the man of heaven. (1 Corinthians 15:49 CSB)
There is a duality in man that makes us very different creatures. Born of dust but with a soul bound for heavenly realms. This duality creates a tension between our sinful self and the being we were made to ultimately be.
Now is the time in Texas when the cicada song is loud in the evening air. It is the one sound that I look forward to each year. Although with it I also know that the Texas summer sun will be beating down on us.
As a kid we used to find the cicada shells to scare the girls with. They are literally everywhere during this time of the year. They represent the cicada moving from one stage of life to another in both visual and auditory ways.
We too must at some point shed this mortal coil. Yet we live this life like there is no eternal tomorrow. We allow the former short form of our duality to take so much more precedent than that which we will be for eternity.
Should we not be now working toward building up our heavenly home. Doing that which God has preordained for us to be doing in this life?
If your current focus is fully upon this world, consider for a moment that it is a breath in the true span of time.
