6 When I was secure, I said,
“I will never be shaken.”
7 Lord, when you showed your favor,
you made me stand like a strong mountain;
when you hid your face, I was terrified. (Psalm 30:6-7 CSB)
The Psalms provide us an incredible insight into the fact that many of the highs and lows we deal with were not so different so long ago. The main difference is that we do not put them so eloquently any more.
King David wrote of his many trials and tribulations along with how God saw him through them. What he left for us is scripture is the innermost thoughts of, arguably, one of the most powerful men of his time. But even with all this power, he had many anxious thoughts.
The beauty too of his writing is that within just a few lines we see how he goes from the heights of “never be shaken” to “I was terrified”. Through it all God said David was a “man after my own heart.”
David, for all his highs and lows, kept his eyes focused upon the Lord. He knew through any circumstance God was for him and God was with him. Just like he is for and with us.
