Conscience

15 To the pure, everything is pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; in fact, both their mind and conscience are defiled. 16 They claim to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work. (Titus 1:15-16 CSB)

Conscience is a funny thing. It can be there to either convict us or condemn us.

This is especially true when it comes to our faith walk. It should be that we have been immersed in the Word enough for the truths there and our conscience to convict us to keep to a given path, God’s path.

However, when the world seeps in, our conscience is quick to condemn us. It, along with the fiery darts of the enemy, are enough to cripple. Once we have been brought to sin and acted upon it, especially when we are striving for a strong faith life, we may be quickly overcome by condemnation.

This is when we must remember that even though we have slipped, God is there to lift us back up. To provide us forgiveness and to shield us against the accusations of the enemy, our primary accuser.

But we must too learn from the situation and our feelings and work harder to turn away from willful sin. Allowing the conscience to be more a guide by our convictions than after the fact a condemnation of them.
