1 For this reason, we must pay attention all the more to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away. (Hebrews 2:1 CSB)
Have you ever received really good advice that really helped you in some aspect of life? Then after a while you tend to drift away from it and go back to doing things like you always did? Diets are probably the best example of this. We know that, if the diet is good and not just a fad, we are getting proper nutrition and we feel better.
But then, cinnamon rolls…..
Our human nature is to drift away, sometimes slowly sometimes quickly, from what we have heard and know is good for us. Part of this too is our core sinful nature. Our enemy knows that this world is just one big enticement.
This is why we must pay attention all the more to scripture and the teachings on them that we have read and heard. We must use the moral compass within those words and stick to the path of righteousness. Even though we will never truly be righteous this side of heaven. The beauty of Christ salvation is that it is substitutionary righteousness. In other words, while we are still sinful we are made righteous through Christ blood sacrifice.
Even in a world that is one big enticement, Christ good news is all the more important.
