1 Lord, I appeal to you.[a]
2 My God, I trust in you.
Do not let me be disgraced;
do not let my enemies gloat over me.
3 No one who waits for you
will be disgraced;
those who act treacherously without cause
will be disgraced. (Psalm 25:1-3 CSB)
I have been going through a new exercise of praying the Psalms. Due to the language it can sometimes feel like I am not connecting with the message. Until I actually take the time to read and pray over the words, turning them around, viewing myself in them from all angles.
Like in today’s scripture, there is much to be gleaned from praying these words.
I make my appeal to the God of heaven, considering my place in this relationship and His good will and grace.
I realize that I can be the primary source of my own disgrace. When I do wrong those who are just watching to see me stumble will be quick to point it out. Thus, I remember to pray for them as well and my capacity to be the same toward others.
If I wait, and do not speak or act rashly, I know God will honor this and, again, I will not be disgraced. I must look to myself and not act in a way that would cause me to be disgraced because I am as capable as any other.
If we dig into the words and the language and turn the scripture both outwardly and inwardly we can gain much from only a few lines when seen from every angle.
