Not Easy

When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’s knees and said, “Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord!” (Luke 5:8 CSB0

I often feel like Peter when I begin to pray and consider the sinful man I am. I do not feel worthy to be in God’s presence. I can 100% identify with Peter here.

But Christ did not come for the perfect man. No, he comes for people like me and for people like you.

It is easy to get into a rut where we just do not feel good enough. Anxiety takes over and we think we have to make things right and when it comes to sin we do. But not in our strength and not alone.

Let me let you in on a little secret, come close now; Life is hard.

Now maybe that did not come as a surprise. Maybe you have lived that hard life. Maybe you are living it right now. I wish I had the cure for a hard life. I would gladly give it to you. In fact I do have one fix for it and that is belief in Christ. But that may not make your life, right now, easier.

I firmly believe that God does want to make our lives easier. I think he does so through the realization that no matter how hard it is that there is heaven waiting to make all those troubles go away. He provides assurance. But that may not make it easy.

I have found nothing in the scriptures that says that it will be. I have found plenty of evidence to how God makes it bearable. But He does not say, “take up your cross, daily” and say it will be light as a feather.

God is continually chiseling away our rough edges with life. This has to be done to prepare us for the life He wants us to lead.
