13 I am able to do all things through him[a] who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13 CSB)
I will confess that I have not been feeling strong of late. In fact quite the opposite. Work and personal stresses have me feeling down and I now have a summer cold. When our emotional systems are low our immune systems are as well.
I have known for a long time that there are two activities in life; those that drain our batteries and those that recharge our them. I realize that I have not been getting or doing much of the latter. So my batteries have run low and I need to recharge. Luckily, I have vacation planned in a few weeks so that should get them topped off.
Even in times of great weakness we can plug into God by spending more time in the Word. Typically, however, when we are running low we tend to do just the opposite. We go to the quick pleasures of life to satiate how we are feeling but this has no lasting effect.
This is when we must reset and come back at life in a different way. I have learned that simply trying to muster the energy to take the hill just leaves you drained and exhausted. Sometimes we must stop and simply kneel down and lift our eyes in prayer.
God will then give us just enough strength to muster on.
