5 This is what the Lord says:
Cursed is the person who trusts in mankind.
He makes human flesh his strength,
and his heart turns from the Lord.
6 He will be like a juniper in the Arabah;
he cannot see when good comes
but dwells in the parched places in the wilderness,
in a salt land where no one lives. (Jeremiah 17:5-6 CSB)
This world will let us down.
Others will too let us down.
Sometimes even our own family or friends let us down.
But this is not a place where we have to live. We can choose to look past the barren land of being let down and move on to more fertile pastures. We can turn our hearts to the One who will never let us down.
When we find ourselves walking through a wilderness, a salt land where no one lives, we can turn to God. He will help us seek out those who can lift us up. Then we good does come, we will not miss it for our self-focused, worrisome grieving.
The key is to keep our eyes focused beyond our current state. It is only when we take our eyes off our own feet that we see that path ahead.
