10 The Lord came, stood there, and called as before, “Samuel, Samuel!” Samuel responded, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” (1 Samuel 3:10 CSB)
Prior to this scripture, the Lord had called Samuel three times. Each time Samuel thought it was Eli, the elder priest, who was calling him and went to him. The Lord had not spoken to Samuel before so his only night time point of reference was Eli.
How many times has the Lord called on us and we were not listening for his voice? Today, few get spiritual insights or calls in a such a direct way. We get them through others insight, or pressure on some front in our lives. We may get a very strong feeling about a given action or may feel strongly that we need to call a friend.
The Lord does speak to us but each in our own way and in His time and pattern for our lives.
But the enemy’s greatest weapon against us hearing or recognizing these calls is distraction and noise in our lives.
If he can keep us super busy with work, family or with our electronics, he can keep us completely distracted from God’s still small voice.
Measure the pace of your life today and consider just how much the enemy is doing to keep you distracted.
