Focus on the Truth

25 He answered, “Whether or not he’s a sinner, I don’t know. One thing I do know: I was blind, and now I can see!” (John 9:25 CSB)

We should typically speak from what we know. Too many speak from a place of speculation and often with little foundation.

In our scripture today, a blind man who Jesus had healed was being questioned by the authoroities. He did not know Jesus prior to being healed so he had no idea if Jesus was a sinner. But what he did know is that Jesus had healed him. I suspect that he had a pretty strong opinion about the character of Jesus from his actions. However, he spoke of what he knew to be truth and fact.

This man was known to the leaders and the proof was before them, yet they decided to focus on the answer they wanted instead of the truth.

It is easy to find many ways to support the narrative we want to support. However, getting to the truth of the matter takes more effort, often more than people want to invest.

When the truth is right before us, yet we strive to support our narrative, we are only fooling ourselves.

Focus on the truth.
