The Daily: Put First, First

30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ [a]This is the first commandment. (Mark 12:30 NKJV)

”Put God first…be fully committed.”

I have written often about the need to put God first so that we are fully committed to Him. This task becomes easy when we make Him our first thought in everything. That commitment to seeking Him first can help make everything else fall into place.

There have been times when I just “did life”. I walked my days on my own and soon found myself in the same rut over and over again. We are creatures of habit. In fact some research shows that a full 80-90% of our lives are simply routine. To me that is a staggering number. But looking back I can see it so truly in my life. Even the things I did not want to do, simply became routine..habit. And it takes time to break habit.

Even today, my day’s consist of mostly routine. Even being cognizant of this fact makes it no easier to break from ingrained habit. This, why would we not make sure that God is first and foremost in our habits. Why would we not make it routine to seek Him first in everything.

Reflect on: Putting God first in your life. Build a new habit of putting Him in front of everything you think or do. Try it for a week and see how life changes.
