His praise shall continually be in my mouth. (Psalm 34:1 NKJV)
”Praise Him in all things, in the good and the bad.”
It may be easy to praise God when times are good, but doing so when everything is wrong and the down season stretches on can be a supreme act of faith.
I think of Job when I think of trying to praise God in everything, he voiced a scripture that may be one of the hardest in scripture to take: “The Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Job had lost everything, even his health was being affected by the enemy’s wagering with the Lord and the Lord’s faith in Job and Job’s faith in Him. Job’s story is one we need to read and humble ourselves to understand. It is easy to get angry with God for allowing so much hurt into Job’s life (and our own at times) without understanding fully His plan or how it can all work out for our good. It is so easy to sit in our base human understanding of the workings of God and judge His fairness. We have no perspective but the perspective of the situations impact upon our lives.
Romans 9:20-21 reminds us “20 But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?” 21 Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?”
