The Daily: Our Understanding

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding; (Proverbs 3:5 NKJV)

”Do not trust your own wisdom, trust God in all things.”

I have written many times on just how limited our own understanding truly is. We see the here and now and can rarely see very far into the future. We do have the value of hindsight, but we must have the wisdom to understand and apply all that we have learned. True discernment comes only from God.

The times when I thought I had a lock on things have been the times when, typically, something out of left field happens. Something I could never have foreseen manifest and changes my entire course of action. This is often God intervening in our lives. We make our plans and dream our dreams and God laughs. It is not that God does not want our plans to be successful or for us to have our dreams, it is just that He knows best and will adjust our path accordingly. That is if we are willing to step from it.

Understanding in this life is a funny thing. It loves to prove us wrong.

Reflect on: Times when you knew you had the right of a thing, just to be proven wrong. Were you looking to God’s plans or your own?
