Limitless

13 For my people have committed a double evil:
They have abandoned me,
the fountain of living water,
and dug cisterns for themselves—
cracked cisterns that cannot hold water. (Jeremiah 2:13 CSB)

Would you trade a limitless supply of something you need to live for a limited supply?

Of course not, that would be foolish. Yet we do so every day.

In our scripture the Israelites had abandoned God for idols they had carved. They had given up the infinite for the finite. In doing so they had not only given up the limitless love of God, they had done so for something that was simply a broken thing. Something incapable of loving them back or doing anything for them.

When we do this today we are abandoning God for our love of money, our jobs our own idols hewn of mostly the actions of our lives. These too become broken things soon enough and we are left empty and wanting.

God continually fills that void with His living water.
