Pride & Denial

61 Then the Lord turned and looked at Peter. So Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.” 62 And he went outside and wept bitterly. (Luke 22:61-62 CSB)

Pride and denial are two things that can create in us a sense that we are right and everyone else is wrong. That we know better than even God what is best for our lives. Or simply that we must have things in our lives that are actually detrimental to our well being (physically, mentally or spiritually).

Peter’s pride and denial on multiple occasions put him in direct conflict with what Christ knew must happen. Even to the point where Peter said he would not allow Christ to die but he would in his stead. He did not understand the ultimate plan and focused on his vision of what Christ should be.

In the end we see that he had to be broken to realize how his pride and denial were in the way of God’s plan.

We are often in the way of God’s plan and are too prideful to realize it. Or maybe we realize it but are in denial of the impact of our actions and the impact they are having upon what God wants of us.

It may be that we must be broken to finally recognize our pride and denial.
