5 I acknowledged my sin to You,
And my iniquity I have not hidden.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”
And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah (Psalm 32:5 NKJV)
Do you live with some form of guilt? Many do and many more live with repetitive sin that leads to feelings of perpetual guilt. And there is good reason for us to feel guilt. However, there to is a better reason to let it go if we are in Christ.
As our scripture says, God promises He will forgive our transgressions and iniquity. We should not live in repetitive sin, this is not the point. The point is that when we sin, God gives us a path to confess that sin and releases us from our guilt. We need not carry that guilt around any longer. We can confess and go and sin no more.
Elsewhere in scripture it tells us how we are to forgive, and how much, seven times seventy. However, here too is the mystery of scripture. In this it is telling us to forever forgive as God forever forgives us. It is not a mathematical calculation, but a promise of always having forgiveness.
Reflect on: How you look at guilt and forgiveness. Now change that view to God’s view.
