8 But now, O Lord,
You are our Father;
We are the clay, and You our potter;
And all we are the work of Your hand. (Isaiah 64:8 NKJV)
We, too often, get this concept reversed. We see us as the potter, forming ourselves into the person or into the life we want. It is only when we realize and become malleable to God’s hand that we begin to form into what He desires. Anything else will be a struggle in this life.
I think too many successful and powerful people have found out the hollowness of a life formed for success and power. They get all they want and realize that this is all there is. They are left standing in mountains of wealth or houses of power, arms out, hands empty not knowing what to do next. Their lives are void of meaning.
When we are open to God’s leading and guidance we find that we may not have all the success or power, but we are nonetheless… joyful. The interesting part of this is that a lack of anything else gets filled by what God gives. He fills in all the voids we may feel need filling and our lives have meaning.
Reflect on: How you and your life have been formed, by the Great Potter, or only by your hand. Then ask, is it fulfilling?
