10 Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. (Psalm 46:10)

Each day we strive. Carving out a place for ourselves. We push and pull and drive to make forward progress. This can feel like ceaseless striving, and far too often it is. Even in the face of adversity we try to make it one more step forward. That motion keeping us upright in our own power.

But in it all we must stop down and take a moment to read; “know that I am God.”

Why does scripture continually tell us this? Is not all scripture pointing to God? Yes, it does, but we must be continually reminded that God is God. We are not. What we own is not. Who we know is not. What we do is not.

Only God is God. And in him he bids that we stop our ceaseless striving and allow Him to work. Is that contrary to what the world tells us? Yes, but God will show us the path and move us forward.
