There Go I

35 “‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me; I was in prison and you visited me.’ (Matthew 25:35-36 CSB)

There is much need around us if we will but look.

We live in our affluence and forget those who go hungry, who are in need, sick and alone or in prison. They are someone else’s problem. In our busy lives they are out of sight and out of mind. The forgotten ones.

And when they are visible to us they are nothing more than a nuisance.

Did I strike a nerve or are we just to numb to the need around us to even care?

The 19th century reformer, John Bradford,  when he saw a poor criminal led to execution, exclaimed, “there, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford”. He knew that the same evil principles were in his own heart which had brought the criminal to that shameful end. (From Wikipedia)

If we shorten Bradford’s statement to a simple “There go I” we begin to start the process of emphasizing.
