You know you have had a tough week when you reach the weekend and simply want to lay your head down and rest. You may have many things you want to do, but your body and mind are saying, “nope”.
40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”
41 And [a]Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:40-42 NKJV)
Stress, especially job stress or family stress, has a way of directing our focus on to that which feels imminent. Facing deadlines, family responsibilities have a way of becoming our foremost thoughts as we work through the difficulties of delivering. Our focus on these things become central to our lives and we can lose focus on God.
Martha was focused on getting things done. Her sister was focused on her Lord. It is not that both things needed some focus, but maybe one sister had the right order and the other became distracted with preparation. I mean, if the Lord wants a meal prepared it’s gonna happen. But what He really wants is our undivided attention.
Reflect on: Stressful weeks and how you may be letting your focus get unfocused.
