9 Bondservants[a] are to be submissive to their own masters in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, 10 not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior. (Titus 2:9-10 ESV)
We do not like to think of our selves as bond servants or as having masters. This smacks too much of things like slavery. But God’s chosen people spent many, many years as servants to others and it does not shy away from this fact. No longer in the slavery sense, we still do have masters if we work for anyone. Even if we own our own company we are typically beholding to either investors, a board or a bank. In short, we are also beholding to God in every way. Bond servants to our Lord and Father.
We must look at our roles both for God and those we work for in a different way. We must strive, as our scripture says, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, not pilfering, showing all good faith in our work, giving it all to God as a sacrifice for Him and our family. When we approach work in this way and spend our days in humble service to those we serve, we show service to God.
Reflect on: Your attitude toward your work and how changing it may honor God.
