Walk in Wisdom

Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. (Colossians 4:5-6 ESV)

When we “walk in wisdom” we are in the world but not of the world. We are keeping a keen eye upon what is going on around us and being shrewd, but also being loving and welcoming. We are wise to the world but not tainted by it. This is a tall order today. There is much that is wrong that would worm its way into our lives. Making the best use of the time we have will require us to plan for the God things in our lives to be part of everything.

Walking in wisdom also means that we are careful with how we speak to others. Having our speech be “seasoned with salt” does not mean we are salty toward others. It means that we work into our speech things that point toward God even when we are not directly speaking of God. Others should come away from our conversations built up and wondering about where our confidence and love come from.

Reflect on: How you walk the walk and talk the talk of God’s love.
