Love May Abound

And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, (Philippians 1:9-10 ESV)

Our genuine prayer can avail much in this world and with the people in it. Prayer is our direct link to God, a path to knowledge and discernment. Yet, we do not take advantage of its power and maybe this is because we do not completely believe that what we pray will happen.

However, many places in scripture Jesus tells us that He will do what is asked in His name, as long as it is in line with God’s will. And that last part is the rub. Too often we pray selfish prayers and do not consider deeply enough the discernment God is giving us in regards to what we pray. We pray superficial prayers and do not converse with God about what lies behind our prayers, our hopes, fears and desires.

When we look at prayer as a love letter to those around us and for the things we truly care about, our prayer life changes.

Reflect on: How do you pray, selfishly or so that love may abound.
