26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:26-28 NIV)
We put a huge emphasis upon being in the lead. To strive to be above the crowd, to be first, never second.
However, how much more important is it but to serve? Those who, though our lives, we tend to hold in most esteem are those who portrayed a servants attitude. This is not to say that we do not also look up to great leaders. Christ was both leader and servant. When these two things come hand in hand, it is then that we encounter the best in others and in ourselves.
