1 Hear my cry, O God;
Attend to my prayer.
2 From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. (Psalm 61:1 NKJV)
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
That last line really hit me this morning. I did not sleep well, life is a bit overwhelming right now and then this scripture was there this morning. Who is our Rock? Who is our Salvation? Who is our Port in a Storm. There is only one, and He is with us always.
Now I write these words and know that they must be followed up with eyes ever upward. I cannot hope to feel this way if I only watch my feet, and that is what we mostly do when we feel overwhelmed. We just watch our feet and seek to put one foot in front of the other day after day. This is no way to live!
God did not give us hearts of meekness, nor did He plan for us to live life like this. No! He meant for us to overcome through Him. To allow the Rock to be our rock, a firm foundation and sure footing when life’s floods overtake us and we feel swept away.
So today, put those feet down and stand upon the Rock. Seek Him first and all things will fall into place!
Reflect on: Feeling overwhelmed or just simply unsure of yourself. Now look up, pray and seek the Fathers face. Lay all of your burdens and cares at the feet of Christ and trust the Spirit to guide you.
When Life is Overwhelming
