6 Jesus said to them, “Watch and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” 7 And they began discussing it among themselves, saying, “We brought no bread.” …..” 12 Then they understood that he did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. (Matthew 6-7, 12 ESV)
Everything today is new and improved, self-rising, easy-peazy. We live in a world that adds something to everything we consume. This is especially true about how the world leaven’s what we see and hear. Thus, the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees enter into our heads and hearts, pulling us ever away from God’s teaching.
Consider, for a moment, what gets sprinkled into your daily consumption. What are you allowing into your life that is not of God, and how are those things hampering your faith?
It may seem boring to think of nothing but spiritual things. God is just wanting enough of your attention to keep you from those things that are not in His plan. Enough of God to keep your leaven fresh and not seeded with the things of the world that take your attention away.
God given faith provides a way to keep our leaven fresh and our eyes upon God.
