Lonely

7 I lie awake;
    I am like a lonely sparrow on the housetop. (Psalm 102:7 ESV)

15 When he calls to me, I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble;
    I will rescue him and honor him. (Psalm 91:15 ESV)

We all experience times of loneliness or sadness. I think the Palmist captures this well with the imagery of a lone sparrow on a housetop. Feelings of isolation and abandonment are pervasive in many peoples lives. This can especially come to roost in our hearts when we get older.

But, God is ever near. Even in times when we feel like we have been abandoned and we are alone, God is there. He gave us the Holy Spirit to live within and provide both guidance and love when we are feeling unloved. We must call out in these times to a Holy Father who listens and will answer us. Scripture too can provide a balm to the lonely soul.

Friends are especially important in times of loneliness. Having someone to call upon can be a true lifesaver.

Reflect on: Any loneliness you may feel and those who you are friends with who may feel loneliness. Maybe you need to call them today.
