3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. This is such an assurance!
We know that everything on this earth is passing away. Even the mountains erode over time and become something else. As we age we realize that our bodies are not built to go on forever. There are signs of change in every season and there are times when things do not come back after a season.
But the promise of our resurrection and our lives in heaven are assured if we have come to belief in Christ saving grace. This gift, freely given, should be something that we not only are amazed at but cherish. That an all powerful God of the universe gave His only Son for our deliverance and salvation. I belabor this because it is such an astounding thing that we are given, freely!
So, today, look at that which you prize most in this life and know that no matter how solid and imperishable you think it might be, it will pass away. Only what we store up in heaven will never fade away.
