Not Consumed

“For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. (Malachi 3:6 ESV)

It is a very good thing that God does not change. That no matter how fickle we may be, God remains the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

I want you to let that sink in for a moment. Really consider your up’s and down’s and how we please God in one moment and sin against Him in the next.

We deserve to be consumed, but God states clearly, “For I the Lord do not change; therefore you are not consumed.”

God’s love for us remains steady and He desires nothing more than our love and obedience. But even when we stray, He welcomes the prodigal back into His house with much feasting and song. No, we do not deserve it. We did not deserve Jesus sacrifice upon the cross, but the Christ came to set us free from the bonds of sin.

We should contemplate this simple, but profound verse today and thank God for the fact that He does not change and we are not consumed. Then go into this next week and work harder to be obedient.
