Dwell

4 One thing have I asked of the Lord,
    that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
and to inquire[a] in his temple. (Psalm 27:4 ESV)

I like visiting old churches and monasteries when there are few people there. To just sit quietly and soak in God’s presence is such a comforting thing.

The days of our lives are generally hectic and filled with many work and family responsibilities. We rush here and there to frantically get everything done all at once and there is scarce time for ourselves, much less God.

We, as a society, need to slow down and dwell in the house of the Lord.

This slowing down gives us the time to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord. To inquire in His house of Him and speak quietly to Him. To actually take the time to listen for His voice in return. There is such value in taking time to dwell with God.

But we do not.

We rush frantically from event to event, responsibility to responsibility and maybe take a moment in the morning or the evening to “touch base” with God. How do we foster an intimate relationship with God when we are only touching base. Only when we dwell do we take the time to develop this relationship.
