Senses

16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. (Matthew 13:16 ESV)

Some times, especially in traffic, I tend to wonder if the other people behind the wheel can see or hear. By their driving they seem to not be able to. But I digress.

We are lucky that God gave us two eyes to see and two ears to hear. Not just so we could pick up the visual or audible nuances around us. Not just to be able to differentiate both visually and audibly where something is coming from. And not just for redundancy should we lose one or the other.

We are lucky because God give us physical senses that mate to our spiritual senses.

You see, God wishes for us to have eyes that see more than what is in front of us. He desires that we “see” beyond the veil of the physical and, metaphorically, into the spiritual realms. We see beyond what we sense.

He desires we also listen to His instructions, which often come through inaudible messages. He desires we hear what the scriptures are saying to us and act accordingly. Thus, when we hear we are listening as much with our heart as we are with any other instrument of our bodies.

God fearfully and wonderfully made us to reflect Him in all things. Why would he not have this extend from our external senses to our internal senses!
