Being Heard

46 And they came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Mark 10:46-48 ESV)

Sometimes we just want to be heard. Bartimaeus was being rebuked for trying to get Jesus’ attention. But he would not have it and kept calling out. Jesus heard him and stopped to heal him.

There are two good lessons here. Sometimes we just need to keep speaking up, in one way or another, until we are heard. We should first seek to understand, from a scriptural sense, if what we are speaking up about is in line with God’s desires, promises and truth. Not everything we think we are right about is necessarily in line with God.

Secondly, we should know that God hears us, even in our sad state, and will respond, maybe not in the way we expect, but in the way we need. God is ever listening, even when we feel like He is being silent.

Our need to be recognized, heard and responded to is important. Thus, we must continue to speak in truth until we are heard.
