Instrument Part 2

29 Then Samson reached toward the two central pillars on which the temple stood. Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other, 30 Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines!” Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived. (Judges 16:29-30 ESV)

We looked yesterday at how Samson and his parents were instruments of God’s plan. While the rest of the story recounts Samson’s many failures with women from other lands, it also recounts his feats of strength against the Israelites captors the Philistines. Even in his death he was God’s instrument to the very end.

We may come to a point in life where we feel like we have lost our ability, through failure or age to be God’s instrument. But when God has plans for us they tend to go well beyond our failures and well beyond our retirement or old age.

Some of the strongest prayer warriors I have known have been quite old. They have been pillars of faith throughout their lives and seem to have a direct line to God. There is much for us to learn from how their faith has kept them strong through many difficult years. Often these same people are the ones who may appear to be the weakest. However, their inner strength would make anything we like to think we have pale in comparison.

There are no obstacles in God’s way on making us an instrument for His will, except our unwillingness to be in the orchestra.
