1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. (2 Timothy 4:1- ESV)
When is the right season for prayer, preaching and teaching about Jesus and the Kingdom?
I think we would all quickly agree that it is something we must do in every season. But what does this phrase mean. Well, in short, it lets us know that every time is a good time for living and telling others about Christ. It is also a comment on the seasons of our lives. We tend to have seasons where we are more or less apt to keep God in the forefront.
Often in ministry circles there is talk about seasons of ministry and I agree regarding this to an extent. Not that we should ever be “out of season” for our ministry efforts, but that we tend to have seasons in ministry. Times when we are very active in one form of ministry and others where that wains, but we should then be active in another. I have gone through such seasons in ministry. Today, really my writing has solidified as a form of ministry that I do throughout the seasons.
There is also no right season for us to minister to others when they are in need. We must always be ready, with great patience and careful instruction. This requires that there be no season we are not in the Word and learning more about its use in instructing ourselves and others.
There is much to be done, in season and out of season.
