Strong and Unwavering

31 Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away because of me this night. For it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ (Matthew 26:31 ESV)

Jesus was explaining what would happen when they came for Him. How his disciples would all fall away and be scattered. This lead to to Peter denying Him three times that night before the rooster crowed the following morning.

We want to believe we would not. We want to have a strong and unwavering faith. But I expect we can all envision a circumstance where under pressure we might deny our Lord as well. We may not mean it in our heart, but we still might do it with our words or actions.

Building a strong and unwavering faith that can stand against any trial, any pressure, is what we should be working toward. This is a faith that can be tested under the knife. To have this strength of faith we must be more than committed. We must have our heart and mind in tune with the Spirit and know that even under the knife, facing death and our world out of control, that God is in control.

The enemy loves to undermine us in a world that breathes chaos. But we can find peace in the chaos, we must simply keeping our attention ever heavenward. Finding that stability point in life truly does make life so much more livable, because the fears and anxieties that once took control no longer have power over us.

God is in control.
