A Trustworthy Saying

he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people. (Titus 3:5-8 ESV)

Information is abundant, but true wisdom is scarce.

We live in the age of information. So much knowledge at our fingertips, so much access to news, research and data, but what of it is trustworthy? It is so hard to tell. I have heard many times someone espouse a fact that they read which I know to be completely false. When you ask where they got the information the answer is almost always the same, “I read it on the internet.”

73.6% of facts are made up. How true is that, well it has to be I read it on the internet. “The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good. (Psalm 14:1).

You see, just because someone makes a statement does not make it trustworthy. Too many people in the media want us to believe their most recent sensational story. So how can we trust that a statement is trustworthy?

Measure it against scripture and what Jesus taught us. Pray about it and see if the Spirit reveals the truth to us. We need not rely upon the fickle taste of the media or the shifting views on the internet for what we believe. We have a trustworthy source in the scriptures.
