Through Dulled Senses

29 Jesus went on from there and walked beside the Sea of Galilee. And he went up on the mountain and sat down there.30 And great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at his feet, and he healed them, 31 so that the crowd wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel. (Matthew 15:29-31 ESV)

What does it take for us to wonder at the glory of God?

Or have we become so crass to everything around us that we no longer wonder at anything?

There were probably those within the crowd who were amazed but unmoved. I am not sure how it could have been possible to watch Jesus work miracles and not be profoundly changed. Even to be in His presence had to be moving. But there are many throughout His ministry that went away unmoved, even some of the most learned and religious. Which brings us to part of why we become crass or hardened to wonder and mystery.

Our world is one where we have uncovered many mysteries that once existed. Science and scientific theory have supplanted religious belief in many ways. Thus, it becomes hard for us to glorify God in our belief that we know so many things. The knowledge of the ages is now literally at our fingertips. So in many cases we read scripture and are not amazed at what they have to impart. Our sense of wonder has dulled.

But God wishes for us to look upon life in a different way. To cull the mysteries of scripture and to seek His wisdom in all things so that we may live a life of wonder and amazement at the salvation of Christ. Realizing that we do not have all of the answers but seeking Him in all things.
